The Quiet Hour
Nothing happened today. That is not nothing.
Nothing much happened today. No news, good or bad. The jobs got done, more or less, and the evening came round the way it always does.
Days like this go unrecorded. We keep the ones with something in them — the call that changed things, the day it all went wrong — and the plain ones run together into a year we later say went quickly.
But anyone who has come through a hard stretch knows what an uneventful day is worth. There are people tonight who would take this one off you without a second thought.
It was not a small thing. It was only a quiet one. Take it as it was given.
This page is not help, and I am not qualified to give it.
If you are struggling, please ring one of these. Both are better at it than anything on the internet, this page included.
This one is on ordinary days. It is the first.
